Fans of Harry Potter can enjoy new content from their favorite franchise starting today. The game Hogwarts Legacy is available today for various consoles. In the game we are introduced to Sirona Ryan, the first transgender character from the Harry Potterfranchise. This is especially striking given the various transphobic comments JK Rowling has made over the years.
Hogwarts Legacy is available from this week. In the new game, set in the world of Harry Potteryou will be able to play a wizard in the 19th century, about 100 years before the events of the Harry Potterseries so. As a result, you will not find the usual characters in the game, but a lot of new faces. And one of them is very special.
Transgender
Hogwarts Legacy is a game in which you play as a fifth-year student in Hogwarts. You will meet a lot of characters. These are of course professors and fellow students, but also some other characters, including Sirona Ryan.
When you meet her in the game she says it took her classmates some time to realize that she was “a witch and not a wizard”. Sirona owns The Three Broomsticks pub in Hogsmeade Village Hogwarts Legacy and plays an important role in the beginning of the game.
J.K. Rowling
The presence of a transgender character is striking, as JK Rowling – the author of Harry Potter and consequently the creator of the world in which the game takes place – has already made several comments in the past that have been seen as transphobic. But the game is completely separate from JK Rowling. “JK Rowling is not involved in the creation of the game,” the official website reads. “While staying true to JK Rowling’s original vision, Portkey (the game developer, red.) in search of new waters, where fans can immerse themselves in the Wizarding World.”
The description of Hogwarts Legacy reads as follows: “Under the guidance of the Wizard’s Field Guide and unique instructions from professors and other characters, fans will discover an immersive storyline filled with exciting challenges and mysteries. They will face dangers as they must defend Hogwarts against deadly foes and thus uncover the secrets of the wizarding world’s forgotten past.”
Of Digital Deluxe Edition van Hogwarts Legacy is already available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series XIS and PC. The physical and digital Standard Editions will be released next Friday, February 10, 2023. From April 4, the game will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch version will be released on July 25, 2023.
