Manchester United are trying to get rid of a number of players to fund new signings.
One of the names linked with a move is Harry Maguire and he was said to be close to a move to West Ham, but suddenly the deal collapsed.
Now Sam Allardyce has revealed why:
– He (Maguire) turned down West Ham, he has turned down. I know his agent very well. I think – and this is without disrespect to West Ham, but he does not believe in the sporting project and fears that they will become a bottom team again, he does not want to go there, he wants something bigger, he said in No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Goal reports.
Harry Maguire lost the captain’s armband at Manchester United earlier this summer and was missing from the match squad against Spurs, due to an injury.
The 30-year-old’s contract with United expires in the summer of 2025.
