Harry Maguire has been brilliant this autumn and was recently named the Premier League’s best player in November.
The Englishman formed a central link with Raphaël Varane when Bayern Munich visited Old Trafford in the Champions League tie on Tuesday night. But then he went on a heavy blow.
When the match clock ticked up to 40, Maguire was forced to break the meeting. The 30-year-old had previously been lying in the grass and grabbed one groin. He tried to play on – but it didn’t work.
Jonny Evans replaced.
“Standing ovation for Maguire as he walks off. Tough blow for him given the form he’s been showing. Big night ahead for Evans,” Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall wrote on X.
At half-time, Manchester United were forced into another substitution. Luke Shaw broke the tie. According to TNT Sport, the left-back, who recently returned from an extended injury layoff, had problems at the end of the first half.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka came on as a substitute.
Manchester United lost the match 1-0.
All matches in the Champions League are broadcast on TV4 Play.
