Yesterday 12:00 – Bayern sources have confirmed what players at the club think of Harry Kane compared to Robert Lewandowski. Kane completed a €100 million move to Bayern from hometown club Tottenham Hotspur during the summer. The 30-year-old has quickly fitted in in Germany, scoring 17 goals in 11 domestic games and another four in the Champions League in four games.
Three months on from his arrival at the club, Kane is an influential figure on and off the pitch. The German press refers to him as “King Kane” and according to The Athletic, his teammates are in awe of his confidence and genuine modesty. Earlier this month, Thomas Müller and Jamal Musiala praised the England captain.
Müller said: “We are so glad to have him on the team. It’s just an experience. The moves and actions he made throughout his career didn’t stay in England. He has shown it with utmost brilliance since wearing the red and white colours.” While Musiala added: “I expected high standards, but not as high as he’s shown so far. He’s even easier to play with than I thought. I feel very comfortable with Harry, he makes amazing passes. I can run behind the defense and he’ll find me.”
It is a stark contrast to former striker Lewandowski, who left Bayern for Barcelona in 2022. Lewandowski won the Bundesliga and Champions League eight times during his eight years at the Allianz Arena, although his departure surprised many. The attitude of the Polish player did not sit well with his teammates. It is likely that Lewandowski was only interested in his own goalscoring record, not the team.
A bigger character than Lewandowski
The source stated: “You always felt that Lewandowski was doing it for himself, not for the club. For Kane, it’s all about the team winning. He’s the perfect role model for everyone else with that kind of attitude.”
Lewandowski was recently criticized for “ignoring” 16-year-old Lamin Yamal in a 2-1 win over Alaves. He has since claimed it was a complete accident. Confidence in Kano also extends to Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel. He is one of the few Bayern players regularly consulted on tactics by Tuchel, although he is not the most vocal speaker.
