Harry Kane scores 2 goals in his 100th England cap as Germany and Holland draw

Harry Kane marked his 100th cap for England by scoring twice and celebrating with his family on Tuesday in a 2-0 win over Finland in the UEFA Nations League.

Kane was presented with a gold cap, to commemorate the milestone, before kick-off. He played in golden boots at Wembley Stadium, and was surrounded by his teammates to celebrate after scoring the first goal, in his usual style.

He took out a Finnish defender before unleashing a powerful shot that grazed the underside of the crossbar.

The Bayern Munich star’s second goal came courtesy of England’s new faces. Noni Madueke sent the pass to Kane to take a shot that deflected off another player.

Anyway, the crowd rose to their feet to cheer the attacker on shortly after, when he was replaced.

“It was a special night for me. Obviously I’m very proud of reaching 100 contacts. “I want to score goals and help the team,” Kane told ITV television.

It was a second successive 2-0 win for interim England manager Lee Carsley, who took over in earnest after Gareth Southgate’s resignation following England’s defeat of Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Carsley could stay in the job for longer if the search for a permanent Southgate successor extends beyond the next international break in October.

England have six points and are tied at the top of their group with Greece, who beat Ireland 2-0.

Ake is injured in a Dutch drawManchester City defender Nathan Ake left with an apparent muscle injury shortly before half-time in the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Germany in the first division of the tournament.

A goal from Denzel Dumfries helped save the tie for the Netherlands, who were ahead with a goal from Tijjani Reijnders after just a minute and a half in Amsterdam.

Germany were ahead at half-time thanks to goals from Deniz Undav and Joshua Kimmich.

It was a duel between experienced rivals who have met seven times since 2018 – most recently in March.

For the Netherlands, it was the first game since coach Ronald Koeman dropped striker Steven Bergwijn from his plans following the striker’s move to the Saudi Arabian League. Koeman suggested that Bergwijn, who was in the Euro 2024 squad, had no desire to emigrate to Saudi Arabian football.

Germany were without Niclas Füllkrug after the West Ham striker suffered an Achilles problem and was replaced by Stuttgart’s Undav.

In the same group, Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina drew 0-0 in the other top-flight game.

Also on Tuesday, Pavel Sulc scored twice to lead the Czech Republic to a 3-2 win over Ukraine, while Georgia beat Albania 1-0.
