The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have invested millions in a new home in Portugal.
Prince Harry (40) and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (43), who have children Archie (5) and Lilibet (3), have lived in their villa in Montecito, California for years, but are now said to have a large part of theirs invested assets in expanding their portfolio.
A source told The Sun: “They are smart with their money.” The newspaper reported that the Sussexes’ new home abroad was “around the corner from Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband.” However, the publication states that the couple “does not plan to live in their new apartment.” It is not known whether the property is rented, used for family vacations or simply an investment. But it was reported that the purchase is seen as “the first step” in “pouring the proceeds from her TV and book deals into a global real estate empire.”
Harry and Meghan earned $97 million from streaming giant Netflix for their six-part series about their family life and the royals’ infamous ‘Megxit’ farewell. The prince also received a $20 million advance for his autobiography ‘Spare’ and inherited $10 million from the late Queen Mother when he turned 40 in September. Still, there are reports that there are concerns that the Sussexes are throwing their money out the window with a lavish US lifestyle that includes private security services in America and for Harry when he visits Britain. They are also still paying off a huge mortgage on their $14.2 million Montecito mansion, which they bought after leaving the UK in 2020. The Sun added that insiders say the couple’s Portuguese home “will be part of a financial portfolio that will include more property.”
