Harry and Meghan: Meghan and Harry demand vaccination justice for the world in New York

At the Global Citizen concert in New York, Meghan and Harry criticize the preference given to rich countries in the allocation of corona vaccines and promote vaccination justice.

Herzogin Meghan (40) and Prince Harry (37) campaigned for vaccination justice at the Global Citizen concert in New York’s Central Park. The current situation of favoring affluent countries with corona vaccines is a “human rights crisis,” said Harry on Saturday in front of tens of thousands of viewers.

“My wife and I believe that the way you are born should not determine whether you survive”. Harry mainly criticized the current patent rights that prevent producers in poorer countries from producing successful vaccines themselves.

“And if we rightly see this as a humanitarian crisis, control of a vaccine that can save lives shouldn’t just be in the hands of the lucky few,” Meghan added at the warm welcome in front of the crowd in New York. While in the richest countries in the world vaccines against Corona are now abundant, only about three percent of people in Africa have been vaccinated so far.

Singer Cyndi Lauper had previously played and dedicated her super hit “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” to Afghan women. The Cuban-American musician Camila Cabello and singer Shawn Mendes also took to the stage. The headliners of the New York concert were the band Coldplay and singers Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez and Lizzo.

At the Global Citizen Festival, greats of the music scene appear in several places around the world for 24 hours to raise money for the climate and against poverty. Specifically, the organizers are demanding financial support for climate protection in poorer countries, funds for the fight against famine and donations of corona vaccines. The idea is to get a lot of people to get involved. (dpa)
