Harry and Meghan hadn’t been married three days in advance, as said of the famous interview

The words that Prince Harry and the Duchess Meghan had married a few days before the whole world knew it were not very important in the context of the other information that had been said.

“No one knows, but we called the archbishop and said, ‘Look, this thing is a theater for the world.’ So the marriage vows we have framed on the wall were made only between the two of us in our house only in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, “said Meghan about the wedding.

The Duchess gave the impression that the couple had married secretly earlier than the rest of the world thought. However, the marriage certificate, which the British tabloid The Sun managed to obtain, speaks differently. It shows the date of the official wedding, ie May 19, 2018.

This was confirmed by Stephen Borton, former head of the office of the Archbishop of Canterbury. An exemption is required for a wedding that does not take place in the designated places. And it was awarded only for the date and place of the official ceremony.

“They did not marry three days earlier, only before the Archbishop of Canterbury. I think they just exchanged promises they made themselves, which is fashionable today, and made them in front of the archbishop. Or, rather, it was simply a test, “said Borton. The archbishop himself does not want to comment on the whole matter.

The whole matter is rather marginal, but it may well point to a misunderstanding between Meghan and Harry and the royal (hence church) bureaucratic apparatus.

Meghan never explicitly mentioned in the interview that it was an official wedding. The only answer from her answers is that a smaller ceremony in three people was much more real to her and Harry than the huge ceremony that the whole world watched.
