Harry and Meghan defend Netflix documentary: ‘It tells the story’

Viewers were surprised by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s statements, as the two are making a documentary with Netflix that offers an intimate look into their lives. The three episodes include never-before-seen childhood photos of Archie and Lilibet.

Ashley Hansen, Harry and Meghan’s publicist, tells the New York Times that the two want to tell their own story with the series. “They choose to tell their story on their own terms, and yet there are tabloids that paint a false picture that seeps into newspapers and the public,” Hansen said. “In their announcement to step back within the royal family, they said nothing about privacy and stressed that they want to continue with their public duties.”

When the couple announced they would step back in 2020, the deal said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted more independent life as a family. By distancing themselves from the British royal family, the media would no longer have reason to follow the couple in their daily lives under the pretext of public interest.
