Harry Allen and Calculatus Win the 1.60m Grand Prix at CSI 4* Gijón

Yesterday, Irishman Harry Allen and his gelding Calculatus won the 1.60m Grand Prix at the CSI 4* in Gijón. After a double signed by Bertram in the big events on Thursday and Friday, the youngest of the Allen siblings took the best of the thirty-three other pairs entered in this competition in two runs after a final course completed in 45”65.

Among the twelve pairs at the start of the second course designed by the German course designer Frank Rothenberger, five achieved a double clear round. Another family affair offered to the Spanish public, cousins ​​Jack and Robert Whitaker, associated with Equine America Valmy de la Lande and Vermento, respectively finished second and third thanks to times of 46”37 and 47”74. The Saudi Arabian Abdullah Alsharbatly, world vice-champion at the Lexington World Equestrian Games in 2010, placed fourth with the Selle Français stallion Atome des Étisses, former mount of Norman Laurent Goffinet. Associated for only a few weeks, the new couple in their second international competition, a month after taking second place in the 2* Grand Prix of Riga. The fifth and last double clear of the event was signed by Luciana Diniz, back after many months of injury, and her Selle Français gelding Vertigo du Désert.

The best French performance went to Stanislas de Malet and Zambo M, penalized by four points in the first heat and thirteenth overall. Other French riders qualified for this Grand Prix, Emeric George and Nicolas Deseuzes each suffered three faults on the course, finishing twenty-three and twenty-fourth respectively with Dune du Ru and Drugster des Forêts. If the riders representing the rooster nation obtained mixed results in this test, the products of French breeding for their part shone with the rankings of Equine America Valmy de la Lande, Atome des Etisses, Vertigo du Désert, but also Vagabon des Forêts, respectively two, four, five and tenth in the race with Jack Whitaker, Abdullah Alsharbatly, Luciana Diniz and Amre Hamcho.
