Actor Harrison Ford received a Golden Palm for his great contribution to the film industry at the world premiere of the fifth Indiana Jones film on Thursday evening.
Ford was presented with the honorary prize as a surprise by festival director Thierry Fremaux prior to the screening of the new film.
The 80-year-old star was visibly moved when he accepted the award. “They say your life flashes before you when you die,” Ford said. “That just happened to me – I saw my whole life flash before me.”
In his short speech, the actor thanked his wife, actress Calista Flockhart, director James Mangold who made Indiana Jones 5 and his co-lead actors, Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller Bridge.
“I can only be very grateful that in my life I have always been able to work with people like Jim, Phoebe and Mads. I am deeply touched by this award. But now let’s go watch a movie.”
In The Dial Of Destiny, as the fifth part is called, Ford plays the title role for the fifth and last time. The actor previously indicated that he is saying goodbye to the well-known character. He first played the role more than forty years ago, in Raiders Of The Lost Ark from 1981. In the film, a Nazi scientist hunts for an artifact that makes time travel possible.
The Dial Of Destiny can be seen in Dutch cinemas from June 28.
