Actor Harrison Ford received a Golden Palm at the world premiere of the fifth Indiana Jones film on Thursday evening. He received this for his great contribution to the film industry.
Ford was presented with the honorary prize as a surprise by festival director Thierry Fremaux, prior to the screening of the new film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
The eighty-year-old star was visibly moved when he accepted the award. “They say your life flashes before you when you die,” Ford said. “That just happened to me – I saw my whole life flash before me.”
In his short speech, the actor thanked his wife, actress Calista Flockhart, director James Mangold who Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny made and his co-leaders Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller Bridge.
“I can only be very grateful that in my life I have always been able to work with people like Jim, Phoebe and Mads. I am deeply touched by this award. But now let’s go watch a movie.”
In Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Ford plays the title role for the fifth and final time. The actor previously said that he is saying goodbye to the well-known character. He first played the role over forty years ago, in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark from 1981. In the film, a Nazi scientist hunts for an artifact that enables time travel.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny can be seen in Dutch cinemas from 28 June.
