San Antonio has a plan. The Texas organization acquired the number 1 pick in the 2023 draft – that is, Victor Wembanyama – and has since been charting a path, as calm as it is safe, with which they hope to once again be contenders for the ring.
As part of that route to shining again among the best, this summer it was necessary to provide the team with veterans. The jump to get into the fight for the championship still has to wait and the most notable additions have been Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes. It seems clear that the Spurs want them to be mentors for their young core, something that the former Sacramento Kings player understands perfectly.
“Obviously, coming in with Chris Paul, we’re going to be two of the most veteran players in the locker room. Just having the opportunity to talk to some of the guys here already makes it clear that there’s good energy, a special excitement. I’m definitely looking forward to being around those guys and getting to work,” the forward said in statements collected by Matt Guzman of Sports Illustrated.
Beyond being a piece involved in developing San Antonio’s young talents, Barnes will also bring his good outside shooting and defense. Barnes insists that he comes to the team ready to do whatever is necessary. “I’m here to do everything that is asked of me. The goal every season is to go out, play 82 games and give it my best,” he says.
