Carillo, 66, was arrested for making threats against Harris on the conservative website GETTR. Specifically, he wrote that the vice president “should be burned alive.” In another post, he threatened that Harris would “regret trying to be president.”
The accused was taken into custody on August 2. During a search of his home, FBI agents seized an AR15 rifle, a light machine gun and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
Law enforcement believes that Carillo “knowingly and intentionally threatened to take the life and cause bodily harm” of Harris. A total of 4,359 of his messages were found to contain threats against various people or groups, including 19 messages directed against Harris.
Carillo published threats against Harris after the vice president began participating in the election.
The BBC reminds that, in the United States, threats to the president, vice-president or several other officials face up to five years in prison.
