It’s about time.

That’s what Donald Trump, his supporters and the mainstream media are saying now that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are finally set to sit down for an interview with a mainstream media outlet on Thursday.

Whether they really need to do so is another question, at least in the minds of Harris’s supporters. After President Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection and endorsed Harris, she has surged in the polls, regaining ground in battleground states that seemed assured for Trump.

Harris has done this while giving influencers more time than traditional journalists. She takes questions occasionally, but this is the first time she will face grilling from a seasoned political journalist since Biden dropped out of the race. That adds to the interest and the pressure. Here’s what to look for.

When is the Harris-Walz interview?

The interview will take place on Thursday afternoon, August 29, and will air at 6 p.m. Arizona time on CNN.

Who will conduct the Harris-Walz interview?

Dana Bash, CNN’s chief political correspondent, will interview Harris and Walz in Savannah, Georgia. Bash and her CNN colleague moderated the Trump-Biden debate; Biden’s dismal performance set everything else in motion. She is known for being a tough interviewer, something she demonstrated in her interviews with Kari Lake and Katie Hobbs during the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race.

Can I stream the Harris-Walz interview?

Yes. CNN will broadcast the interview on CNN.com and its mobile apps.

Why is the interview not broadcast live?

It’s not unusual for networks to record interviews before airing them. Biden’s interviews on ABC and NBC after the debate, in an attempt to show he was ready for the campaign, were pre-recorded but aired in their entirety without editing, and no one can say they were edited to make Biden look good.

CNN will air the Harris-Walz interview in its entirety and provide a full transcript afterward, the network said.

Why isn’t Harris being interviewed alone?

Despite the Wall Street Journal’s bizarre editorial calling Walz Harris’s “sidekick,” it is not unusual for candidates to do joint interviews.

Trump and Mike Pence gave one to “60 Minutes” in 2016. Barack Obama and Biden gave one. So did Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine. And, by the way, so did Trump and J.D. Vance. The difference here, of course, is that Harris hasn’t given any mainstream media interviews since Biden’s announcement, so there’s more pressure to hear her out.

How to watch the Harris-Walz interview

6 p.m. ET on CNN. Stream on CNN.com and CNN apps.
