The Democratic candidate in the US presidential election, Kamala Harris, has indirectly called her Republican opponent Donald Trump a coward. At a campaign event in Rochester in the swing state of Pennsylvania on Sunday, she told hundreds of supporters, without mentioning Trump by name: “Anyone who puts other people down is a coward.” Trump had called Harris a “radical” and “crazy” on Saturday in Pennsylvania.
The incumbent US Vice President added in her speech: “In recent years, I think there has been a kind of perversion that says the strength of a leader is measured by who he puts down.” The true measure of the strength of a leader can be seen by who is promoted.
Trump supporters fear that personal attacks could have a negative impact on the Republican’s election campaign. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham warned on NBC on Sunday: “President Trump can win this election. His policies are good for America, and if you have a political debate, he wins. But Donald Trump, the provocateur, the showman, cannot win this election.”
The day before, the 78-year-old had claimed at an appearance in Pennsylvania that he looked “much better” than Harris, who is said to have an advantage because of her attractiveness. He also called the 59-year-old a “socialist lunatic” with the “laugh of a madwoman.” He described the current US government under President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris as “stupid.” The Republican repeatedly makes headlines with such statements – contrary to the advice of allies to focus more on substantive criticism of the Democrats.
