Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia iOS and Android still dominate the operating system in the global HP market until now. Both are invincible, despite the many operating systems in the world such as Tizen and KaiOS.

However, now Android and iOS need to be aware of the presence of HarmonyOS from Huawei. After the US banned Huawei from using Android, the Chinese giant started developing its own operating system.

Named HarmonyOS, this operating system is only four years old. However, HarmonyOS has now managed to become the third largest operating system in quarter 4-2022.

This achievement has not been followed by a large market share. HarmonyOS has only pocketed 2% or an increase of 1% year-on-year (YoY).

The figure is still far from Android at 76% and 22% for iOS.

Even so, HarmonyOS grew rapidly in China as its country of origin. China is the largest HP market in the world, so it becomes a business determinant.

HarmonyOS market share in China was already 8% in Q1 2023. That figure jumped 5% YoY.

Android still dominates China with a market share of 72%, followed by iOS with 20%. However, the growth of HarmonyOS cannot be underestimated.

This new operating system is getting closer to the position of iOS and it is not impossible to overtake it.

At a relatively young age, HarmonyOS has a lot of room to grow. For information, HarmonyOS is open or open source and supports a variety of devices, from cellphones, smartwatches, smart TVs to other IoT devices.

The superior feature of HarmonyOS is the flexibility of connecting one device to another. Users no longer need to worry about compatibility and other issues when sharing data between devices.

In addition, HarmonyOS supports a number of programming languages that make it easier for developers to develop applications. Namely from C/C++, Java, JavaScript, and Kotlin.

However, Huawei has challenges developing HarmonyOS. For example, that operating system has a limited market and still takes source code from Android.
