Harmoko’s role as minister of information was quite long before ending when he became chairman of the DPR/MPR in 1997. As the Minister of Information, Harmoko is an ‘extension’ of President Soeharto to ban the mass media in order to maintain the stability of the country.
Some of those who have been hit by Harmoko’s ‘cold hands’ are newspapers Rays of Hope, magazine Time, tabloid Seconds, and magazines Editor.
During his tenure as Minister of Information, Harmoko was the originator of the Kelompencapir (Listeners, readers, and viewers) movement which was broadcast on national television, TVRI.
He, who is popular with his straight and smooth left-parted hair, has his own characteristics during his tenure as Minister of Information.
During the New Order, when the state television station TVRI became the sole channel at the time, Harmoko always appeared on television to deliver announcements from the government.
The opening sentence that is identical with Harmoko is, ‘According to the instructions of the President’. That sentence became a characteristic that people who grew up in the New Order remember remember, such as remembering Suharto with the word ‘than’.
