As a single mother, Astrid protects her offspring like a lioness. She even wears a shirt with text that applies to her role: with the words ‘don’t mess with mamasaurus, you’ll get jurasskicked‘ she skillfully keeps many men at a distance. Now that Harmjan realizes that the way to her heart can be reached through her son and daughter, he is fully committed to the attack. Reluctantly, he mounts himself on a mountain bike – mind you, he really hates cycling – to show his good side.
It functions. “I let go of the tension that was bothering me. The way I started it, of ‘bring it on’, that’s how I am now,” says Astrid. She even sees potential in HJ. “The image I had of him is confirmed by himself. An open, honest person. In that sense there is a click and it is pleasant.”

Astrid thinks the kids would love to have a man in the house again. “I have the idea that they feel that something is missing in the house. That is in the first instance their daddy and in the second place it is a man who also takes care of mom and possibly helps mom in the company.” To approach her in her own way, she does something that HJ has not been able to do the other way around: make him wet.
He doesn’t mind. HJ has long been happy that Astrid has broken free. “Then it’s easier to give teasing punches. Sometimes her eyes speak volumes, even if they are hidden behind sunglasses.” When her daughter HJ then asks if he can come along more often, a sensitive chord is touched in him.
“Yes, I want to”, he says with tears in his eyes, and then in his best English to continue: “The children speak Dutch and German of course, so I did say to Astrid: ‘It is a very strange feeling, biking with a new family. Never thought that should be happen.'”

HJ has to go up a gear in a calm way, because in the next episode a competitor is on the way when Ruud rings the doorbell at Haus Nohra to also compete for the heart of the B&B owner. As long as HJ has learned from last time, as can be seen in the video below…
