Harmful Particles from Canadian Fires Cause Poor Air Quality Advisory in New York

Harmful particles caused by the fires in Canada will maintain the advisory for poor air quality throughout the State of New York this Thursday.

The official AirNow site He estimates that today the Big Apple will have poor air quality that could be harmful to sensitive people or those with pre-existing illnesses.

The Government of New York extended the warning for poor air quality until the first minutes of Friday.

For this reason, vulnerable New Yorkers should avoid outdoor activities and watch for symptoms when exposed to smoke.

Pulmonologist Joseph Varón pointed out that if poor air quality lasts for a long time, it could affect people in the long term, even if they do not have any lung disease.

“It’s not so much how bad the air quality is in one day, but if you have moderately bad quality for several days in the long run that can get you into trouble, even people with normal lungs,” he warned.

Separately, Lucrecia Borchardt of The Guardians of Time estimated that the smoke particles in New York City could be seen as a type of fog.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that a third team of forest rangers will be deployed to Quebec to assist in the response to the fire in Canada.

Masks will be handed out on the subway

The state government will maintain the delivery of N-95 masks at various subway stations.

Skins are available at the following locations:

Grand Central Terminal
Penn Station
Fulton Center
Jamaica Station
Main Concourse of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, South Wing
Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn
Grand Concourse, Bronx
Shirley Chisholm State Park
Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve
Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park
Roberto Clemente State Park
