That is why the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), knowledge organization FLORON, Leiden University Medical Center, Wageningen University and Pollennieuws/Flora van Nederland are calling for the plant to be removed from gardens.
The hay fever season is extended by at least two months due to the wormwood mbrosia. This has to do with the fact that the plant flowers until October.
Report
The institutes have been calling for reports of wormwood ambrosia growth sites for some time now. The plants can then be removed. Last year it turned out that 60 percent of the hundreds of reports came from private gardens. Managers of public green spaces can therefore do nothing about it.
The seeds of sagebrush ambrosia are now banned in bird food because of the plant’s serious drawbacks. The tricky thing is that the seeds can remain viable for up to forty years, so that the plant will still emerge in the garden.
Remove plants
You should wear gloves when removing the plant, because the wormwood mbrosia can also cause skin complaints. If the plant is already flowering, it is also wise to wear a face mask and safety goggles, says the NVWA.
Removed plants must be disposed of with the residual waste and may not be placed in the organic waste bin. You can read how to recognize the plant here.
