Risk of breakage of the passenger handles
A fixing that is too fragile and risks giving way
Recall operations are not uncommon on our motorcycles. This is often the case when a production problem has arisen and presents a fragility on a part. Completely new models are also not immune.
Harley-Davidson is thus concerned for its very first maxi-trail, the Pan America 1250, unveiled and marketed last year. If the American trail has been unanimously praised by critics for its dynamic qualities, it nevertheless has a design flaw that requires its return to the workshop. And this also applies to standard models that versions Special.
In fact, it is the system for fixing the passenger handles which is at fault. It was noted that this one, fragile, could break when the motorcyclist pulled on the handle while trying to put the motorcycle on the central stand.
Although it is not impossible for the motorcycle to tip over during this operation, it is above all the case of a breakage while driving while the passenger is holding onto it, which poses obvious safety problems, for example on a strong acceleration.
To remedy this, the Milwaukee manufacturer is therefore replacing all the passenger handles of the Pan America 1250s produced before November 16, 2021. While the interventions were first carried out on new motorcycles in concessions, the brand is replacing also supports on all machines already registered. The operation falls within the framework of the guarantee and is therefore free of charge.
The owners of the motorcycles concerned have received a letter inviting them to contact their dealer to replace the defective part.
