Haritsi’s invitation for a motion of no confidence against the government – 2024-03-08 19:17:48

The president of K.O. of the New Left, Alexis Haritsis shortly before the start of the session of the Plenary of the Parliament on non-state universities.

In order to submit a motion of no confidence against the government, 50 signatures are required, of which the New Left has 11. So the 21 votes of the KKE and at least the votes of either SYRIZA (36) or PaSoK (32) are needed.

Mr. Haritsis announced his party’s initiative to the cameras saying that “today we are defending the public university, today we are also defending the Constitution of the country, the collective conquests of the Greek people” and accused the government of “relentlessly violating the Constitution which explicitly states that the establishment of private universities is not allowed.”

“Today I call on SYRIZA, PASOK, KKE and Pleusi Eleftherias to submit a motion of no confidence against the government together”, he added, noting that “all the forces of the progressive opposition must take their responsibility”. “There are no half-assed ideas here. The government must be defeated. Democracy must win,” he concluded. This proposal was repeated by Euclid Tsakalotos at the beginning of the meeting. “We have to show that there is an opposition in the Parliament as well,” he said.
