Haris Doukas, candidate for the presidency of the party, spoke in an interview “about a critical and historic electoral process in PASOK”, for the internal party elections of October 6, 2024.
Speaking on Alpha’s main news bulletin, he underlined that “the next president of PASOK can become prime minister”, adding that PASOK is not for secondary roles, but for a leading role in the governance of the country.
“We are having a fight. The effort is to make PASOK again the great democratic faction that will govern. My colleagues told me that the signatures of members and friends were 20,762. I also owe a big “thank you” to the members of the Central Committee, to all those who supported my candidacy and to all the friends of PASOK”.
“I deeply believe that a big change in the direction of the country is needed. We must move forward with participation and Democracy in great ruptures and upheavals. There is fear of a crisis from the great retreat of New Democracy. From everything that Mr. Mitsotakis announced, I did not understand what changes from tomorrow,” he said and added:
“I am making an effort to join forces and win. I believe that through this process, where I want there to be a lot of participation, the next President of PASOK that will be chosen, can become the next Prime Minister of the country. PASOK needs a condition of overthrow, with clear positions and proposals. We must remember again the “K” from the word “movement”.
Possible cooperation between SYRIZA and PASOK
Regarding the possibility of cooperation between SYRIZA and PASOK, Haris Doukas replied that he gives greater importance to cooperation at the grassroots level “I want to activate and mobilize citizens”. “I appeal,” he said, “to all progressive and democratic citizens to join us. But we want soldiers on the front lines, not generals. We need people who fight.”
“When the developments in SYRIZA (including the election of a new president) come, we will be able to have a better picture.” “We are following with interest the developments in SYRIZA”, he said, while at another point he emphasized that “cooperation is important, but it must be in a specific direction, with a progressive sign that will deal with social inequalities”.
“But what interests me is that on October 6, PASOK has a democratic explosion and on the 13th we create a clear breach in the existing situation that sinks society downwards.”
