Hardware destroying device is its name and its creators are Juan Carlos Cantillo and his wife Diana Paola Incer from Cartagena. This system’s function is to destroy the hardware of any electronic equipment, in order to be used in those that are susceptible to theft, whether with or without violence.
Diana Incer, a lawyer by profession, says that she had to quit her job to support her husband with an innovative idea she had in her head to mitigate the buying and selling of stolen phones in Cartagena.
How does the device work?
The creators assure that the quantities of ignition or explosive materials are necessary to destroy the hardware of the equipment to be disabled without causing harm to the person in possession at the time of activating the hardware destruction procedure.
“The project is still in the prototype stage, but the method we intend to use consists of taking any type of existing explosive with a low concentration, any type of existing acid or mixture of acids deposited in a container and we connect it to a link device . If it is in a cellular device, it is connected directly to its link device and if it is in another electronic device, a receiving device is connected and installed at the source of the device, that is, we take any type of materials that when joined together make up an ignition or explosion system and is designed to be activated by radio frequency, control cable or other mechanical means,” explained Juan Carlos Cantillo.
“If the person has their device stolen or lost, and they do not want it to pass into other hands, from the application they can carry out the self-destruct process of the mobile phone, and have it completely explode without being able to be repaired,” explained Diana Incer.
And he added: “For the procedure to be a success, an explosive is needed that is malleable, that is not activated by heat, movements, or blows, that can only be activated by radio frequency, control cable or other mechanical means. C4 explosive will be used.”
“Innovating in Cartagena is a struggle”
The couple of creators say that it has not been easy to carry out the project, since they have applied in different calls such as Jump Chile 2023 and won the Global Security Award, but so far they do not have the necessary support.
Starting a business is difficult, but innovating is even more so. You have to get out of your comfort zone and take the risk of being better until you become exceptional.”

“We presented ourselves in the Innovamaster 2023 call, Cartagena innova, and we were not chosen. The support we have had has been at the national level with the Ministry of Sciences and Technology and the Smart Steel company in Barranquilla, but to sustain this financially we have had to make loans. We are making this invention with our own money. Fortunately we already obtained the patent, not only nationally, but also internationally. That means that we have a 20-year exclusivity with the idea, since it is original and unique to us.”

Recently the couple saw a publication in the national news in which a young candidate for Mayor of Bogotá presents a very similar project among his government proposals.
The candidate Nicolás Ramos proposes to transform Bogotá through practical and innovative solutions that improve the quality of life of all the city’s inhabitants and the use of technology in order to reduce crime rates.
“For example, we have a very innovative proposal for the theft of cell phones where we want to implement a new technology called nanosatellite, which is a small 10 kilo satellite that massifies the satellite internet and with that we can implement it as a public policy for the District a chip on the motherboard of cell phones. With that, once they are stolen, the user reports them and from that satellite the motherboard is burned,” Ramos explained in an interview for Infobae.
The couple from Cartagena is currently trying to contact the candidate for Mayor to check that the proposal is not the same project for which they have the patent.
