Director and screenwriter Mohamed Dayek says, “I have long wanted to shoot a movie that includes parts of my life. I grew up in a family of four young men. My mother is somewhat similar to the mother we see in the film, and the characters of the brothers in the film have features that are almost similar to the characters of my brothers, but apart from Drugs, and the idea for the movie was born out of the neighborhood I grew up in. I generally tend to portray my own stories and experiences.” He adds: “We were supposed to film “Hardabisht” in the southern suburbs of Beirut, but we chose Al-Awza’i in the end because the requirements for filming in it are less complicated. Even the way they interact with each other differs.
Al-Dayikh says: “The two main actors are my brother (Hussein Dayikh) and Rafik Omari (Hussein Qaouk). I do not believe in the necessity of the actor being a professional, but rather the most important thing is that the actor, whether professional or not, can perform his role well and give him his due. Quite simply.” “I could choose an actor from the street who would play the role in a more beautiful way than a professional actor. The actors are people from my surroundings, and the supporters are the professionals who filled their roles in the best way, i.e. Randa Kaadi, Gabriel Yammine, Fouad Yammine, and Alexandra Kahwaji.”
