He Monaco Grand Prix of Ferrari on friday he saw Charles Leclerc y Carlos Sainz hard work, testing all available compounds, thinking above all about tomorrow’s qualifying, a more crucial phase than ever in the Principality race.
The two cars finished the first day in second and third position behind Max Verstappenthe latter who managed to take the first position in the afternoon session after a rather complex first practice from the point of view of the settings.
However, Sainz’s Friday ended with more than fifteen minutes on the clock due to contact with the barriers at the Piscina chicane. The Spaniard involuntarily touched the inside wall, damaging the front suspension, an aspect that made it impossible for him to avoid the barriers placed at the exit of the change of direction.

The Cavallino driver did not make any drama about the contact with the guardrail, defining it as a typical error of judgment on a narrow and complex track like that of the Principality, rather looking at the glass half full.
“It was light contact. I touched the inside wall at turn 16. Typical Monaco miscalculation. A shame because today I forced the mechanics to work longer, but in terms of confidence and lap times I’ve been competitive throughout the whole day”.
Sainz explained that performance and confidence seem to be in line to aim for a good result, although for tomorrow there is still something to test in the set-up of his SF-23: “I still want to try a couple of things in the set-up point to try to improve, but in general I feel quite competitive”, added the Spaniard.
The Ferrari standard-bearer did not want to go too far in terms of the chances of aspiring to pole position, but he did not hide that the hope is to be able to beat Red Bull: “I think we are on the right track, at least to fight. The Red Bulls are very fast, they are still leading after the first day. But we are closer than at any other track, we hope to at least be able to upset them, but it will be difficult.
