Both Bruno Fernandes’ behavior on the pitch and his statements afterwards are harshly criticized after the 0-7 defeat against Liverpool.
Former Manchester United players Roy Keane and Gary Neville were in the Sky Sports coverage merciless in their judgment of the United captain’s behavior on the pitch as well.
– His behavior in the second half has been a shame. Bruno Fernandes has been embarrassing to witness at times, Neville commented late in the match.
Fernandes could be seen kicking Liverpool players, avoiding rebounds and flailing his arms as United made substitutions.
– I’ve had enough of him throwing his arms at fellow players. I’ve had enough of him not running home. He lashes out at everyone. He is pushed in the chest and holds his face. He must deliver a performance worthy of a captain. This was not a captain’s performance, said Neville after the match.
– Bruno’s body language was nothing short of scandalous, said his colleague Roy Keane.
– There is a boy with a lot of talent, and he is our captain. But the body language, the gesturing, the lack of return runs… You wouldn’t be happy with him in the dressing room afterwards, Keane continued.
Whether it was Fernandes he was referring to is unknown, but Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was also critical of his players’ lack of will.
– We stopped running home. It’s really unprofessional, he said after the match.

In Sweden, Viaplay expert Erik Niva reacted to the interview with Fernandes after the match:
– He cannot do that interview without apologizing, says Niva in the Swedes’ studio broadcast. Aftonbladet journalist Niva believes United’s supporters deserved an apology from the captain.
– It is not normal for Manchester United to lose in this way against one of our worst rivals. But we have to move on and get back to our usual level, said an analytical Fernandes in an interview with Viaplay.
