Leipzig – Almost a year after last episode in Leipzig the RTLZWEI documentary shines “Hard Germany“Another two-hour episode from the trade fair city. In addition to familiar faces, there are also new ones. There is a pregnancy to be celebrated, a farewell to be said and an almost suicide to be solved.

Every single addict knows how dangerous the drug intoxication is. There were 13 dead junkies in Leipzig in 2020, and there were three fewer in 2019.
Norman (32) has been tied to several illegal substances for 18 years.
At that time he was afraid of coming home and of being beaten because he had screwed up. “That way you were at least a little numb,” he says of his youth.

Shortly afterwards, buddy René (40) gives him an injection in his throat. A particularly dangerous method because muscles or arteries can be hit instead of a vein, which in the worst case can lead to death by suffocation.
More dangerous, yes, but two-time dad René claims: “You hit better and the effect is better.”
There is also a reunion with Eva (21). The high school dropout has lived on the streets for more than two years after her mother died of cancer.
She has an apartment with her boyfriend Enrico “Enno”, but after she is homeless she cannot manage the house and runs away again and again.
Because she can’t get away from drugs, the relationship threatens to fail. But the two pull themselves together. And Eva even becomes pregnant: “I feel ready, but it will be a very big task!”

Hard Germany: Benny almost commits suicide in prison, but now he’s clean

Alex (20), who already has five children with three wives and is currently on two-year probation for theft and trespassing, is also dependent on crystal meth and other substances.
A longer clean phase of almost a month is behind him, in the meantime he has crashed again, even consuming publicly in broad daylight in a park. When a family with a small child comes by, he hides his utensils: “Then you shouldn’t do it anymore!”
The 20-year-old, suffering from psychosis, was greatly humiliated when he said he was spat at by his adoptive parents after they saw him scrounging.

After several postponements, construction is now also taking place at the Eutritzscher open-air loading station. An eleven-hectare wasteland west of the main train station is to give way to the new “Löwitz Quartier” district. Many homeless people who lived here in old buildings have to leave for good.
One of them no longer witnessed the “move”. Franz (64) died of a heart attack. The free spirit, who did not take drugs, gave the younger ones support. “He was like a papa,” says one. Buddy André (37) missed Franz’s funeral, “because I was reluctant, that’s not possible”.

The TV team will also visit Benny, 31, in February 2021, who has been in custody for more than five months at the time.
He immediately said that he needed Subutex, but was initially denied it. Before he was given the heroin substitute, he thought of suicide for withdrawal.
An inmate in a neighboring cell, with whom he spoke, alerted the prison guards, who apparently were able to intervene just in time. “If they had come five or ten minutes later, I would have been gone,” said the 31-year-old.
Benny got clean in prison, appears healthier and is no longer kicked out like often before. He doesn’t want to go back to drugs after his release. “I made it in here, why shouldn’t I make it out there?”
