Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich has taken a drastic step regarding the management of the club due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Roman Abramovich hands over to Chelsea
The Russia-Ukraine conflict does not leave the world of football indifferent. This has in particular a great impact on Chelsea, a club chaired since 2003 by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovitch. On the eve of the League Cup final against Liverpool, the Russian entrepreneur decided to take a step back from managing the London club. His interests are indeed threatened since he is considered close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a press release published on Saturday, the businessman announced that he had passed the management of the London club to the Blues Foundation. “That is why I today entrust the trustees of the Chelsea Charitable Foundation with the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC. I believe that they are currently in the best position to look after the interests of the Club, the players, the staff and the supporters. This decision comes as English parliamentarians call for the freezing of the property of the boss of the Blues in England.
A top prize list thanks to Abramovich
Since his arrival at Chelsea, Roman Abramovich has not skimped on the means. Since then, the Blues have entered a new dimension. The club has even often been sanctioned by UEFA in the context of financial fair play in view of its high expenditure. The history of the London club has been enriched as much as its trophy cabinet since he presides over its destinies. Under Abramovich, the Blues have notably won two Champions Leagues, two Europa Leagues, a European Super Cup and five Premier Leagues. Thomas Tuchel’s men have just lifted the Club World Cup. They have the opportunity to win a new title this Sunday against the Reds.
