Harassment case: Unionist sanctioned: support committee denounces “unfair dismissal” – News Geneva: Geneva news

Last Thursday, the unionist accused of harassment and inappropriate actions by a dozen women was dismissed following an internal investigation. However, for his supporters, the sanction did not pass. They announced on Tuesday that they would create a support committee, which will provide the person concerned with “help and assistance so that they can assert their rights and obtain justice and reparation. Our committee will defend the rights of the trade unionist and, beyond that, all workers in the Canton of Geneva confronted with this same arbitrariness. ”

Led by Thierry Daviaud and David Andenmatten, members of the Union of Public Services (SSP), this group believes that the sanction imposed on the employee does not have to be. “The support committee is able to affirm that Unia made its decision without the unionist and his lawyers having been able to obtain or even consult the report of the internal investigation,” said a press release.

More generally, the support committee considers that the employee is the victim of a cabal. “The cause has been shamefully diverted by some to serve their purposes, which is incredible violence against the cause of women.” According to its members, the reason for the dismissal “seems to be, for Unia, to be able to state publicly that it applies the principle of zero tolerance which prevails vis-à-vis sexual harassment, thus giving proof of the media pressure orchestrated by some. ”

The collective also questions the temporality of the testimonies. “How does Unia justify dismissal from an otherwise disputed charge several years before the unionist was hired?”

On Thursday, the union announced that the internal investigation (conducted by an organization external to Unia) had been concluded, concluding that the management was free from reproaches. The content of the report and the sanctions, however, were not disclosed. The victims, who testified in the Geneva Tribune in early December, said they were relieved.
