Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Opium traders in Afghanistan told about the reason they sell opium, an item that is forbidden in Islam.
Recently the opium sellers in Kabul have been talking about the price of their wares skyrocketing since Taliban in power.
Amanullah, the pseudonym of one of the opium traders, released his flagship product. He put it in a small cup that was hung over the fire.
The opium resin he had taken earlier quickly melted and boiled. That way, he and his partner Mohammad Masoom can show buyers that their opium is pure.
“It is haram (forbidden) in Islam, but we have no other choice,” said Masoom, at one of the markets in the Howz-e-Madad area of Kandahar province, in a statement. AFP.
Masoom said drug smugglers were now paying him 17,500 Pakistani rupees, equivalent to 1 million rupiah per kilogram. In Europe, it has a value of more than US $ 50 (equivalent to Rp. 713 thousand) per gram.
Before the Taliban came to power, it only got a third of this price.
The rising price of opium in Afghanistan was also confirmed by one of the opium farmers, Zekria, who uses a pseudonym.
He said he now raises more than 25,000 PKR (equivalent to Rp2 million) per kilo from opium sales. This price is up to 7,500 PKR when compared to the price of the pre -Taliban leadership.
Zekria revealed that the price of his merchandise was higher than Masoom. The reason is the picking of poppy flowers at the beginning of the harvest.
