Present at a press conference on Saturday, the Blues defender confided his satisfaction at having made his return to the French group during this October gathering.
After numerous injuries over the last three years and notably a ruptured cruciate ligament in one knee last season with Chelsea, Wesley Fofana found his way back to Clairefontaine at the start of the week. He who, at 23, only has one selection with the Blues, is now fully enjoying the pleasure of being present in the France group: “I’m very happy to be back, playing football. It’s been hard, it’s been a long road. I worked to come back and now I’m trying to stay healthy to continue playing and doing what I love. I couldn’t wait to play with my club again, now I’m a little impatient to have a second selection. Wearing the French team jersey is different, it’s something very strong. But I’ve come a long way, you have to go little by little, don’t skip the steps, I’m taking my time, but I’m impatient, it’s true.

In September I couldn’t be there, I came back, we had a discussion with the coach and by mutual agreement we decided to take the time. Today I stay fit and healthy, that’s the most important thing at the moment. Every game (with his club)I feel better on the pitch, I try to gain the most confidence, to have benchmarks. All gatherings (with the Blues) are important to everyone, whether you have hundreds of selections or not. You have to give your all to stay, there are a lot of good players in France, we all know that. We have to take every rally 100%, we all have a card to play all the time, we have to give our all, already to be called up and have the coach call us back. If the coach calls on me, left or right, I will respond, even as an advanced attacker there is no problem. When you come to the French team it’s to be a starter, not to be on the bench, but that takes time, there are players in place who have proven that they deserve this starting title, we have to respect that and try to earn your place little by little. »
