Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Argentina have confirmed they have won the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This certainty was achieved after Argentina defeated France on penalties 4-2 (3-3) at Lusail Stadium, Qatar on Monday (19 /12/2022) Early morning WIB.
Albiceleste defender Gonzalo Montiel was the winner for his side in a five after his shot was not stopped by French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Previously, in regular time until overtime, the match was fierce. Argentina had a two-goal lead thanks to goals scored by Lionel Messi (23rd minute) and Angel Di Maria (36th minute).
But in the second half, France rallied thanks to two quick goals from Kylian Mbappe in the 80th and 81st minutes respectively.
As the match went into extra time, Messi gave Argentina a 3-2 lead after taking advantage of the chaos in front of the French goal. However, Rooster Team struck back through Mbappe in the 118th minute, sending the match to penalties.
This is Argentina’s third title in history. Previously, Team Tango won the 1978 and 1986 FIFA World Cups.
Notably for Messi, this is his first title in his entire FIFA World Cup appearance since 2006.
