Latin America is known for its cultural and geographic diversity, but a recent study has revealed a common denominator in the region: happiness. According to this study, the majority of women in Latin America consider themselves happy, and at the top of this list are Colombian women, with a 78% high level of personal satisfaction.
This study, carried out by Provokers, covered more than 2,000 women in countries such as Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Chile. The study, Study on Women: lights and shadow, was published in 2023.
Furthermore, one of the aspects that stands out in this study is the generational difference in happiness levels.
Although Colombia leads the overall list, Generation Z, made up of young people born since the mid-1990s, shows lower levels of happiness compared to the Latin American average, at 52%.

As for love relationships, Colombian women also stand out in this aspect. 64% of those surveyed declared they had a pleasurable sexual life, significantly exceeding the average for Latin America, which stands at 42%. This data reflects satisfaction in intimate relationships and contributes to the general feeling of well-being.
In addition, the study also addresses the issue of the LGBT community in relation to the adoption or raising of a child in a homosexual couple. When it comes to raising children, 67% of Colombian women and 61% of the average in Latin America believe that a same-sex couple can raise a child just as well as a heterosexual couple.
So, what could be the reasons behind the happiness of Colombian women? We can explore several factors that could contribute to this trend. The pleasant climate of the country could influence the mood of its inhabitants. In addition, the rich Colombian culture, its music, dance and gastronomy, contribute to a festive and happy atmosphere.
Furthermore, it is worth highlighting the importance of interpersonal and family relationships in Colombian culture. The closeness between friends and family can contribute to a feeling of happiness.
“At Provokers we seek to highlight these findings to make visible and encourage society to continue moving towards acceptance and diversity in all forms of love and family. These data reflect a positive change in attitudes and perceptions, especially among the younger generations, and give reasons to be optimistic about the future within the framework of the month of the Day of Love and Friendship,” said Rosalba Olivella, CEO of Provokers, those in charge of the study.
