Ulsan-class Batch 3 No. 5-6 building project… total KRW 833.4 billion
Score difference with Hyundai Heavy ‘0.14’… Joys and sorrows at the deduction
Hanwha Ocean has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Ulsan-class Bath-III 5th and 6th ship construction project, beating its competitor, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
According to related industries on the 14th, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration selected Hanwha Ocean as the preferred negotiator for Ulsan-class deployment 3 5th and 6th ships, which are called the next-generation frigates of the Navy. Hanwha Ocean has gained an advantage over competitors in the warship order line with a project budget of 833.4 billion won. The contract is expected to be concluded in August-September.
Hanwha Ocean received a final score of 91.88, beating HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, which received a total score of 91.74, with a difference of 0.14 points. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries was ahead by 0.9735 points in the technical capability evaluation, which took 80 points out of a total of 100 points, but suffered a loss from Hanwha Ocean due to deductions for unfair practices.
Previously, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries was convicted of a company official who leaked the conceptual design from the next-generation Korean destroyer KDDX project, and a 1.8 point deduction is applied in the evaluation of weapon system proposals until November 2023. As the score difference between the two companies in this battle for warships was 0.14 points, deductions due to unfair practices in the past held back HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Meanwhile, Ulsan-class Batch 3 is a state-of-the-art frigate construction project that replaces old frigates (FF) and corvettes (PCCs). The military authorities plan to introduce a total of 6 Ulsan-class deployment 3 ships, and these 5th and 6th ships are the last.
