Rostock – The 27th matchday of the 2. Bundesliga led on Saturday the FC Hansa Rostock and SV Sandhausen am Hardtwald in Sandhausen. With the 1-0 (0-0) away win, Die Kogge scored three important points in the relegation battle and thus increased their series to three wins in a row.

The 1st half: Very influenced by tactics

It was a varied game right from the start, which picked up speed after a quarter of an hour. The hosts had the first good opportunity through Christian Kinsombi, who tested Markus Kolke with a header from close range in the 14th minute. Shortly thereafter it was Erik Zenga who couldn’t put the ball in the Rostock goal. The Cog in Luck. Hansa’s first goal approach was a long-range shot by Timo Becker (18th), who just went over the goal. Overall, however, tactics played a major role, as both teams relied on defensive work, the defenses did not allow much. Only the visiting fans could be heard from the ranks, who made the right atmosphere and created a home game atmosphere. A direct free-kick from Simon Rhein was not far short of a goal for Die Kogge (33′). In the 39th minute Kolke had to intervene again and fend off a shot by Pascal Testroet. That was also the last interesting scene of the first half.

After the break: Quick lead

Incredible start to the second half of the game. At first, Hansa almost fell behind from the kick-off, then the goal-getter struck. A cross from Simon Rhein sunk John Verhoek with a header in the Sandhäuser box (48th), no chance for keeper Patrick Drewes. After that, the game calmed down again. In the 77th minute, Ryan Malone almost equalized with a diving header, but was lucky to hit the post of his own goal. In the final phase, the hosts threw everything forward, but couldn’t equalize because Hansa defended passionately.

The conclusion: deserved victory

The first half was very much influenced by tactics and even if the home side had the better chances, the goalless result was okay and still offered a lot of room for improvement. The beginning of the second half gave hope at first. Hansa withdrew more and more after the lead, Sandhausen couldn’t do much with possession. In the end, a well-deserved victory of passion for the guests.

The votes after the game

Jens Hardel (Rostock): “We are extremely relieved and happy that we got three points from a direct opponent for relegation. Sandhausen got into the game well, after that we had the upper hand for ten minutes and from then on it was an even game. We came out of the break very sleepy and Sandhausen had the chance to take the lead. Then we make the gate. With the goal behind us, we defended with man and mouse. We are grateful and satisfied to have collected the three points.”

Alois Schwartz (Sandhausen): “I’m satisfied with the performance of my team, but not with the result. We invested a lot, got on well and had a couple of good shots in the first half. We were too hectic in front of goal and always made the wrong decisions. We can take the lead after the break and almost get the 0-1 out of the situation. We could have played another hour today, the ball probably wouldn’t have gone in. It’s very disappointing that we’re empty-handed after a committed game.”
