Hans Klok retired as an illusionist after forty years. In conversation with The Telegraph he says he aspires to a television career. He also has plans for a cinema film and a television series.
“Together with TV producer Erik van der Hoff, we have prepared the scenario. It is one Penoza-like drama series for youth. In addition to the drama series and cinema film, I am going to make a documentary about variety shows for the public broadcaster. I’m going to look for knife throwers and jugglers from the past. “
He has also become co-owner of a circus.
The 51-year-old Klok has just returned from Las Vegas, where his attempt to break through internationally as an illusionist failed. “The world has changed so radically as a result of corona. For the time being I have no more confidence in the future and have decided to completely change course. I have to, because as an illusionist there is no longer any dry bread to be made.”
Klok does not rule out the possibility that he will ever return as an illusionist. “I fear that it will not happen any time soon. It doesn’t feel good and I am also gloomy about the future. Maybe I put myself too vulnerable, but on the other hand, after the death of Nathalie (Hoop, his assistant, ed.) to be able to put everything together. “
The 43-year-old Hoop was the assistant of Klok for years and died at the end of last year from the effects of cervical cancer. “That was the absolute low point of 2020 for me. The loss of Nathalie really hurt me. I was devastated by grief.”
