you participate in The Big Balance. Did you have any doubts when you were asked?
,,Not really. I liked it very much. My father, who has been dead for twenty years now, but who was the main driving force behind the Hans Klok company, was able to walk a tightrope as a child. He was then 6 or 7 years old and had many friends from the circus. And my father talked a lot about that to me. So when I was asked, it was like it had to be. I said yes, not knowing it was that hard.”
But there are already many shows in which celebrities can do a trick. So what makes this program different?
“Yes, good question. I actually just really enjoyed learning. And don’t forget, in corona time, the people who are normally in theaters have to do something different. I have also been in many programs this year, Summer guests and the gala of the Gouden Televizier-Ring, for example. My bills also have to be paid.”
How hard is highlinen really?
“I thought: I’ll do that for a while. I passed the test well and am very fond of the circus myself. But really, I didn’t think it was possible. I was badly injured, even had my foot in a cast. And it makes you nervous, you know, if you keep falling off a line. No, I really misjudged how intense it is.”
How did you prepare?
,,We have to train for three hours in Baarn three days a week. In addition, you are also expected to train at home, so I stretched a rope in a shed to practice. I don’t know if it’s a long-lived program, though. It’s very sadistic, it’s a bit like that Korean series Squid Game. I said from the beginning: ‘I hope we survive this’, haha.”
