Hans Hagendoorn was last heard last night as the voice of NOS With an Eye on Tomorrow. He retires after 48 years and hands over the baton to successor Hanneke de Jonge. The two met for the first time in the studio.

The 76-year-old Hogendoorn spoke in the studio With an eye to tomorrow that he experiences his last broadcast with a neutral feeling. “How do I feel about saying goodbye? Not empty, but neutral. It was nice to sit in front of the microphone again,” said Hogendoorn.

Public competition

At the beginning of this year, a new voice was sought through a public competition. There were almost 7,200 entries. Hogendoorn says he is surprised by the high number of entries. “We looked with great surprise at the numbers that only increased in the first week.”

Ultimately, the jury chose Hanneke de Jonge as the new voice of the radio program. She can be heard every day from tonight.

Inseparable

Hogendoorn was from the first broadcast of With an eye to tomorrow which makes him inextricably linked to the radio program.

According to him, as a listener you build a bond with the voice on the radio. “That’s something very intimate. You can’t explain that to someone else. But you want to hear it very often. And next week you turn that thing on again and in this case people turn it on every night.”

At the end of the broadcast he had a message he wanted to give to listeners: “Keep listening to the radio and turn off the TV.”
