She shot full in both lying and standing. After a strong race by Hanna Öberg, the 27-year-old was able to finish second – only 2.2 seconds behind the winner Denise Herrmann-Wick.
– Hanna Öberg’s run really stands out. I don’t know if she ever rode like this. It may have been the best thing she did, says SVT Sports expert Björn Ferry.
Hanna Öberg tells us that it was a bit of a chore to come second with such a small margin.
– But I am very happy with my race. I’m going all out for the first time in a championship sprint, she tells SVT and continues:
– Only the last two seconds were missing, otherwise it was perfect.
The German Herrmann-Wick was cheered on by an excited home crowd in Oberhof, and was thus able to pick up WC gold in the sprint.
First time since 2007
As if Öberg’s medal wasn’t enough, Linn Persson would also do a great race. The 28-year-old shot full, finished third and was thus able to claim a WC bronze.
– Fantastic race. Incredibly good, says Björn Ferry.
The medals were eagerly awaited, to say the least. For the first time since Anna-Carin Zidek in 2007, a Swedish female biathlete has won a WC medal in the sprint.
– The team effort is great today. Two medals is indescribably great, says national team coach Johannes Lukas.
