Hanna and Elvira Öberg answer Dorothea Wierer

ZHANGJIAKOU. Dorothea Wierer is tired of the cold and wants the competition times to change.

The Öberg sisters do not buy the criticism.

– It is noticeable that we are from different places…, says Elvira.

The cold has been one of the big snacks here at the Olympics. The other day, the Swedish skiers said that they had to make an effort to be able to breathe at all when the cooling effect from the ice winds found their way down to minus 30 degrees.

In Monday’s distance race it was much milder. “Only” around ten minus and hardly any wind to speak of.

Wierer completely incomprehensible

Pure dream, the Swedes think.

Disaster, thinks Italian star Dorothea Wierer, who does not understand why the competitions start at 5 pm in the afternoons when the sun begins to set.

– It was so cold today. I would have preferred to start at 1 pm instead of 5 pm. It is not possible to put on any amount of clothes either because we have to shoot. I run with heat cream on my hands, that’s all, she says in the mixed zone after her 18th place.

Wasn’t it worse last Saturday?

– Well, then we only drove six kilometers, so it only took about 20 minutes. Today we were out on the trail for 40 minutes. It changes everything, says Wierer.

A Finnish reporter then asks if the Olympics in China is the coldest place she has ever competed in.

– Yes, because normally it is only cold for one or two days, but here it has been cold for several weeks. I actually prefer Kontiolax over this, haha.

The Swedes do not agree

The Öberg sisters, unlike Dorothea Wierer, have no problem with the competitions starting late in the afternoon.

– She is southern European so she may have more problems with the cold than I have. For me, these are not strange things, says Hanna.

– I do not agree with Dorothea. The cold was my least concern today. I have not thought a thought that it was cold today. It is noticeable that we are from different places…, states Elvira.

Wierer is also not very hopeful that the organizers will change the start times for upcoming competitions.

– No, it will not happen.

Sin?

– Yes, as I said: I would rather have started at 13. But we are only athletes, so…
