Balanced budget – but the city of Hann. Münden has to keep an eye on the money because of high loans and an investment backlog of 30 million euros. (Archive)

Hann. Münden is making progress in terms of per capita debt, as current figures from the State Office for Statistics show. In a nationwide comparison, the city improved by 31 places last year. According to the figures, Bovenden, Göttingen, Bad Sachsa, Wolfsburg, Königslutter, Salzgitter and Braunlage perform worse in southern and eastern Lower Saxony. Hann. Münden presented a balanced budget for the second year in a row. The municipal supervision of the district of Göttingen has now approved this, as the city announced. In 2020 and 2021, the authority had still rejected the budget. Hann. Münden still has high debts in the form of liquidity loans. A spokesman said that the new budget would reduce this debt burden from 42 to 37 million euros.
