Hangzhou –
Indonesian women’s cricket forced to accept defeat in Asian Games 2023. Their progress was stopped by the organizing committee who decided Pakistan as the winner of the quarter-final match.
The last eight round match between Indonesian women’s cricket and Pakistan was scheduled to be held at Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field, Hangzhou, Thursday (21/9) at 14.00 local time. However, the match did not take place due to bad weather (major error).
The condition of the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng field did not allow it to be used due to heavy rain, but instead the committee immediately declared that Pakistan was the winner.
This decision also sparked protests from Indonesian women’s cricket. Because, without any results, the committee immediately decided unilaterally.
“The result should have been no result. However, because Pakistan’s world ranking was higher, it was decided that they were entitled to the semifinals,” said a quick quote from PCI General Chair Abhiram Singh, which was conveyed by KOI to reporters.
“Of course we are very aggrieved by this decision. We are currently trying to protest through the NOC. We have previously sent a complete chronology of NOC materials at the CdM meeting. Hopefully there can be a solution,” he said.
Prior to the quarter-finals, Indonesia previously beat Mongolia in Group A. Indonesia got a fantastic score of 187/4, while Mongolia was only able to collect a total of 15/10.
The Indonesian players who were the main contributors to the victory in the first round included Ni Made Nanda Sakarini (35 runs), Ni Luh Ketut Wesika Ratna Dewi (62 runs), Maria Corazon Konjeb Wombaki (22 runs), and Kasse Kisi Salisa who contributed 18 runs.
In the second half, Indonesia appeared dominant by ending Mongolia’s game with just 15 runs at the end of nine overs. And took them to the quarterfinals.
