Hanging party at Pfarrplatz – Linz University of Art embarked on expeditions into the present

LINZ. Expeditions in pandemic times? The Kunstuni Linz has set out on a Corona-safe search for clues as far as Asia. The first results can now be seen on the Internet – an exhibition in downtown Linz is planned for the end of April on a day of action.

The team – consisting of the National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan and the departments of Visual Communication, Architecture, Art History and Art Theory of the Art University – researched the present on four “Expeditions into the Now!” at the center of the questions.

CO2 card game developed

The Taiwanese expedition focused on climate neutrality in everyday life. With regard to high carbon emissions, Mali Wu asked for daily behavior patterns to be checked: “We have to learn from the patterns in order to understand how we can unlearn these habits.” The students literally took the problem into their hands and made it visible developed a card game for their daily CO2 consumption, analyzed their eating behavior and thus ensured positive karma.

Let yourself be infected by visions

“We didn’t want to get infected with viruses, but rather let ourselves be infected by the visions of others”, is how Jasmin Mersmann and Anne von der Heiden (art history and art theory) describe their expedition. “On our voyages of discovery we looked for new ways of working together. A research project with a strong social character that encouraged students and teachers alike, ”says Tina Frank (visual communication).

Revitalization of the public space

On Friday, April 30th, the Kunstuni is planning a day of action in the city center: The architecture’s “CCGraph” brings cinema into public space, including the scent of popcorn and a community experience. With the “hanging part”, the parish square becomes a place of relaxation, with a collection of hammocks. These and many other projects emerged from the impressions and ideas gathered during a total of four stages of the expedition: interventions, performances, posters, social sculptures, ready-mades and happenings. You activate streets, squares, walls, windows, displays and empty shops for a day.
