Planes that collided at Haneda Airport in Japan were removed from the runway and the investigation is still ongoing
At present, the removal operation of the Japan Coast Guard aircraft in the aircraft collision at Haneda Airport in Japan has been completed. According to JAL, the aircraft dismantling plan also started at 8:30 local time on January 5.
The JAL aircraft removal operation is expected to be completed 7 days ago
The Japan Coast Guard stated that the removal operation of the Japan Coast Guard aircraft was completed at around 16:30 local time on January 5. Currently, the aircraft is temporarily placed in an area near the airport runway. Japan Airlines stated that the dismantling work of the passenger plane began at 8:30 on the 5th. The dismantling work is expected to take several days. Japan Airlines hopes to complete all removal operations by the 7th.
Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism: Runway C will resume operations from the 8th
On January 5, Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Saito Tetsuo stated that Runway C of Haneda Airport, which was suspended due to the collision, will resume use from the 8th, but flight takeoff and landing capabilities may continue to be affected. Tetsuo Saito said that starting from the 6th, staff at Haneda Airport will be deployed to monitor the runway with radar to prevent aircraft from entering the runway by mistake. Affected by the plane collision, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways canceled a total of 590 flights from the 5th to the 7th, which will affect the travel of about 100,000 people.
Related investigations continue to find no voice recorder on JAL passenger plane
On the other hand, relevant investigation work is still in progress. The Japan Transportation Safety Board said it would interview seven flight attendants on the JAL passenger plane on the 5th. The day before, the committee had interviewed the pilots and flight attendants of the JAL passenger plane. One pilot said that he “saw something in the moment before the collision and felt something was wrong.” He also said that he “did not visually detect the Coast Guard aircraft.” So far, a flight data recorder and a voice recorder of the Coast Guard aircraft have been found; the flight data recorder of the JAL passenger plane has also been found, but the whereabouts of the JAL voice recorder are still unknown.
Air traffic control personnel may not have noticed the warning signs on the tower screen.
Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued a statement on January 5 saying that the “runway occupancy monitoring support function” on the tower screen to remind air traffic control personnel to pay attention was operating normally at the time of the incident. The Coast Guard aircraft stayed for 40 seconds after entering the runway, but air traffic control personnel may not have noticed the prompts on the screen in time.
