Handwerk – Rostock – Handwerk defies Corona crisis: Growth in companies – Service

Rostock (dpa / mv) – The craft in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania sees itself as an anchor of stability in the Corona crisis. The small and medium-sized craft businesses were among the largest and most reliable taxpayers in the country. “If the income from the trade tax 2020 in MV after deducting the surcharges amounted to 486 million euros and this income is higher than estimated in advance, then this is mainly a merit of the craft,” says a message from the Chamber of Crafts Ostmecklenburg-Vorpommern, held its general assembly on Saturday in Rostock.

According to information from Chamber President Axel Hochschild, an increase in companies was registered in East Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania in 2020. “This shows, on the one hand, the stability in the trade in the past year, and on the other hand, that the trade is always needed as a supplier and service provider,” stated Hochschild. The order books in the construction industry are well filled. According to the president, the chamber has a total of 12,270 craft businesses, in the Schwerin chamber district there are almost 8,000.

Hochschild welcomed the fact that the more than 1,600 hairdressing and cosmetics businesses in the chamber area were allowed to reopen in March. Many of these companies, which had to remain closed for months due to the corona, are already threatened with existence. The situation of the supplier trade around the MV Werften, in the motor vehicle trade and in the catering sector is also critical. The provisional lifting of the obligation to file for insolvency could help to support companies in economic distress.
