An unfortunate hand and a sure Bruno Fernandes from the penalty spot saved 2-2 for United.

But the big club risks ending up in its worst position in the Premier League ever.

A question on that theme caused coach Erik ten Hag to leave the press conference.

The 2–2 draw leaves Manchester United seventh in the Premier League on 50 points with six rounds remaining, two points ahead of West Ham.

The club now risks finishing worse than seventh in the league, which would be the team’s worst result ever since the Premier League started in 1992.

But coach ten Hag was anything but eager to talk about it.

– I will not comment on that issue. It is not important right now, he said and left the press conference.

Had a tough time

Manchester United had a tough time away to Bournemouth for a long time.

The home team’s top scorer Dominic Solanke gave Bournemouth the lead after 16 minutes. Although Bruno Fernandes equalized after half an hour of play, it would be Bournemouth who went into the break in the lead thanks to Justin Kluivert’s header.

But in the second half, Manchester United would be given a helping hand, literally.

Kobbie Mainoo fired a shot that was deflected through an opponent and onto Adam Smith’s arm and United were awarded a penalty. There, Bruno Fernandes was the safety himself when he made it 2-2 in the 65th minute.

Drama at the end

In added time, most United supporters probably put their hearts in their throats. Seemingly on the edge of the penalty area, Willy Kambwala brought down Ryan Christie. The referee first pointed to the penalty spot, but after several minutes of VAR review, the decision was changed to a free kick.

– If you look at a big screen it looks like it was on the line so it might as well have been a penalty, but it didn’t go our way. We are not happy. Beating Manchester United is something you always want to do, says Dominic Solanke to Sky Sports.

The free kick hit the wall by Enes Ünal and the match ended 2–2. For United, it is the fourth straight league game without a win.
