University of Indonesia (UI) epidemiologist and biostatistics expert, Pandu Riono reminded that the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia must catch up with the speed of virus transmission. Also catch up with the speed at which the virus mutates.
“Nothing can prohibit mutations from the corona virus, because the corona virus has naturally mutated, only the speed is different,” he said in a virtual discussion, Wednesday (27/1).
President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) challenge for a year of Covid-19 vaccination, he said, would be impossible to achieve if there was no improvement in handling Covid-19. For example, in terms of preparing logistics, operational strategies, to the various requirements for Covid-19 vaccine recipients that hamper the accelerated vaccination program.
He also asked the government not to underestimate the total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia which has reached 1 million. This is because the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia are actually more than 1 million.
Supposedly, he said, handling the Covid-19 pandemic must combine all methods from 3T (testing, tracing, treatment), up to 3M (washing hands, keeping your distance, wearing masks). While vaccines are only additions and have never existed in the history of human civilization, vaccines can cope with a pandemic.
On the other hand, handling the Covid-19 pandemic must use modern and planned management. However, he said, Indonesia currently has no plans at the national level.
For this reason, Pandu suggested that the Ministry of Health should handle the Covid-19 pandemic directly, not the Task Force, Task Force, or Committee.
“Imagine, a country with lots of health experts, but no plans. This must be done immediately. Don’t repeat last year’s mistakes again. Denial phase (denying), late phase, “said Pandu.
