♦ The business started in 2019 with a minimal investment for the purchase of some tools, but last year the entrepreneur invested 25,000 euros in machinery and equipment.
The passion for wood and sculpture led Sorin Chiuzbăian to become an entrepreneur and opened the Hancrafted by Chiuzbi business in Timisoara. Opened in 2019, the business reached revenues of almost 30,000 euros last year. After finishing the faculty of arts, where he attended sculpture courses, Sorin Chiuzbăian started making various wooden objects for household use, especially choppers and bowls. For three years, sculpture was only at the level of passion, but starting in 2019, Sorin Chiuzbăian started the Handcrafted by Chiuzbi brand.
“I received a first order before I had a physical workshop, I honored that order and realized that I wanted to do something in this direction. The first thing was to find a space to work in, my luck was that I found a space close to where we live and I purchased two tools and then I started to buy various machines and utensils”, says Sorin Chiuzbăian.
With the opening of the business, Sorin Chiuzbăian began to make a concrete plan regarding his business objectives. The first steps he took in the development of the small business were the purchase of machinery and equipment for making objects. “From 2020, I started investing in professional tools, because the orders increased and I realized that if I wanted to honor on time, although at the beginning I made it my policy that I would not rush when it comes to a order, I have to align a little with what the customers want, who want to receive the product as quickly as possible and for it to be of the highest quality”, he says.
The years of the pandemic were very good for the small business in Timisoara, when the demand for household items increased a lot. The entrepreneur does not only make small household items, but also had more complex projects, such as tables, bookcases, stairs. Many of the orders are for custom projects.
An important moment in the business was just last year, when the entrepreneur invested 25,000 euros, the largest amount invested since the opening of the business, for the purchase of more efficient equipment that would allow him to carry out more complex projects.
“Last year was a good one because I started to be more visible and people saw what objects I can make. It was as good as 2021, but there were not as many orders, but the degree of complexity of the projects and their value was higher. This is the idea of my business, to end up doing works that no carpenter dares to do”, explains the entrepreneur.
The difficult economic context was also felt in small business, which has been facing a drop in demand for several months. “There are requests for offers, but they are not materializing,” he states.
However, Sorin Chiuzbăian estimates revenues of 30,000 euros this year. He wishes that in the future he would deal only with complex projects, that his products would be objects of art.
